When a search returns a huge number of results, the user is left with no choice but to sift through the results or change his search query.  A good search system should return results in a relevant order.

The relevance rules might vary between different apps. For example, Recent documents, tickets, leads will be more important than an email or ticket that came 6 months back. Similarly data like document name, ticket subject, owner will be more important than the document content.

6. Find information even if you do not remember the exact search term

Most of the time, users might not remember the exact word that should be used to search for a particular information. Zia Search uses various techniques to match the relevant information, even if the user does not give the exact keyword in search. Zia search handles

  • Typo tolerance
  • Compounding / De-compounding query terms ("Designreview" will also match "Design review" and vice versa)
  • Stemming ("run" will return results for "running", "runs")
  • Transformations ( "$10" will return results for "10 dollars" also )
